International Tallinn Flower Festival in the park of the Square of Towers in 2011
I have the pleasure to invite your city to participate in the 3rd international Tallinn Flower Festival that the City of Tallinn will organize in summer 2011.
The 3rd international Tallinn Flower Festival in the Towers` Square (Tornide väljak) park in Tallinn will open on 27 May and stay open to the public until 27 August 2011. The 1st Flower Festival in 2009 was a great success, attracting over 400,000 visitors and the event is on its way to become a yearly tradition that brings together gardening and flower lovers from all over Estonia and the rest of the world. The aim of Tallinn Flower Festival is to bring together gardening and horticulture enthusiasts from Estonia and abroad, give its participants an opportunity to create remarkable garden plots and thereby gain positive publicity and offer aesthetic enjoyment to the citizens and guests of Tallinn throughout summer. Festival guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the participants' creations, familiarize themselves with new horticultural trends and observe the growth of garden plants from late spring until late summer.
We suggest the following topics for your city's garden draft design:
"The Garden of a Coastal Village"
"Ethnic Patterns"
and invite a team of 3 landscape and gardening specialists from your city to participate in the festival and design a garden plot according to the festival themes in one of Tallinn's centrally located parks - the Towers` Square. Each team will be provided with 2 local assistants and free of cost summer plants for the sum of 1,000.- € (to be chosen from the catalogue provided by the organizers of the festival). We will book the hotel and cover the gardeners' accommodation expenses from 21 until 28 May 2011 (alltogether 6 nights).
On 20 May there will be a festive reception for the participants of the festival. The construction of gardens will begin in the early morning of 22 May and end in the evening of May 26. On 27 May the gardens will be opened for visitors.
Please have your colleagues inform us about your city's participation in the 3rd international Tallinn Flower Festival by 20 December 2010 at the latest by email: caspar@kadriorupark.ee. Thereupon on 21 December 2010 prospective participants will receive the number, layout plan, technical specifications and other information necessary for the drawing of the garden layout plans by email.
Participants' garden layout plans are due on 4 February 2011. Having received all the necessary information and documents, the jury will choose 31 best layout plans to be laid out in the Towers` Square (Tornide väljak) park on 21 - 26 May 2011.
The participating gardeners' teams will also be invited to the closing ceremony on 27 August and we will again book the hotel and cover the 1-night accommodation expenses in Tallinn.
At the closing of the Flower Festival on 27 August, the jury will announce the three best gardens of the festival. The public's favourite prize will be awarded on the ground of visitors' votes. The winners will receive prizes.
We also invite a culture group from your city to give a free public performance on the stage of the Flower Festival grounds during the festival. We will also book the hotel and cover the performers' accommodation expenses while in Tallinn.
For further information about the organisation and conditions of the festival, we invite you and your colleagues to visit the festival's website www.lillefestival.tallinn.ee and contact the project manager of Tallinn Flower Festival Mr Caspar Lootsmann, GSM +372 556 311 91,
